Through youth led discussion groups and consultation the OBC have introduced a non-formal educational curriculum to support the developmental needs of young people in this current climate of change. Moreover, young people will be the driving force behind the curriculum and programs being delivered. 3 out of 4 weekly sessions will be curriculum based with young people being able to choose to participate in one or more curriculum area/s.

THE 3 FOLLOWING CURRICULUM AREAS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS PRIORITY AREAS OF NEED:

Ø  Economic Currency

Ø  Political dialogue

Ø  Sports Development

IN ORDER TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF CURRICULUM AREAS, YOUNG PEOPLE AND YOUTH WORKERS CAME UP WITH THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS.

Budget Mondays:

Focuses on life skills and the importance of understanding money and budgeting in the current economic climate.  This is a 6-week program where a set of 3 young people will be given a £10 budget to spend on a meal for the entire youth club (comprising of at least 15 young people).  With support from the youth work team young will prepare and serve a nutritious meal in accordance with national standards of a healthy well-balanced diet. Young people will develop a further understanding of products and produce, effective budgeting (penny wise - pound conscious), and healthy eats.

Weddy Weddy Wednesdays:

Is a discussion based forum, where young people understand as individuals they are citizens of the world, discussing a large proportion of topics pertaining to themselves, community, culture and diversity? The forum is designed to be used as a platform where young people can discuss, explore and thrive using dialogue to develop the self through learning from others.

Sporting Around Fridays:

Is a sport based program where young people will learn and become involved in playing a variety of sports e.g. Basket Ball/ Volley Ball to maintain a good level of physical activity, sessions will be led by trained professionals to preserve the youth clubs culture of supporting health through sporting measures and achievements. The OBC will support engagement by organising youth/ inter club tournaments with trophies and prizes, using sport as a tool to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
